Our world, My world- A MUST-READ

A few days ago, a reporter wrote in the Straits Times that meant like MotheR Nature is having PMS or sth like that. I can't rem the headings but it was talking about the Tsunami end of last year, Hurricane Katrina and the recent Pakistan earthquake which caused the most number of casualities amongst others. SIGH. I so agree with her. So many natural disasters are happening around the world, and these days, so close to home, in Asia. HOW? Let alone terrorists, who have nothing else better to do in the world but to prove what? Crap. I don't even remember your names. Only Osama's. Move on, you terrorists are getting so common pple won't know you anymore, what you do only serve to heighten Osama's name, that's all.

I watched Oprah, Prime Time last night on Starworld. She spoke about the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, and how the people in New Orleans were affected. She specifically said NOT to call them VICTIMS but SURVIVORS. She had footages of how tens of thousands of them were kept and sought refuge in a football stadium, not knowing wat is happening outside, with no proper sanitation and food/drinks. Oprah insisted on seeing how it looked like, and her first instinct was to vomit. She went down personally to see these pple, talk, touch and help them. N how bodies were left on the streets, uncovered without dignity, and that those too ill/ injured were placed in the morgue to DIE IN PEACE.

Reporter, May, asked if this were an AFFLUENT WHITE place, would help take THIS long to arrive? They ARE americans after all. Thou black. I KNOW Oprah is more sensitive to this case cos she's black too. I can sense her indirect disgust, displeasure and disappointment in U.S government and people whom she feel are not giving enough help or as much as they could. She commended those who did though.

I teared. As i always do when i watch this sorta thing. I feel for them but there's nothing i can do to help. I donated my stuff to Red Cross liao. Money wise i gave bit (cos every penny counts) but how much can i give or do? i'm not a medical specialist either. So it's really up to those who HAVE the ABILITY to give back to society in monetary or physical terms to do so. I would if i could. It's not a matter of getting anything back in return, but this sense of unexplanable satisfaction and immense gratification in helping others. Or Pray, at the very least. Singapore should hold more campaigns to help these pple! Like my friend said, the youth of the world should be aware and reach out!

We have a myopic view on most of this, cos it's not happening THAT near us. We dun really really FEEL the consequences. For those not directly affected, we still have to live our lives, it's not as thou the whole world stops when such unfortunate events happen. We still have to go/move on and then we slowly forget after awhile. N many of us are too caught up with the maybe not so important things in our lives to care. Tragic but true.

We are SOOOOOO lucky and blessed to be here in Singapore compared to the rest of the world. Yes, the grass is always greener on the other side. There maybe are things that they have or do better than us. But we are safe. Very safe. We've got great shopping and food here, compared to many countries out there. See the bigger picture and you would thank your lucky stars. We may have a rather rigid government and system or culture which even i sometimes feel real sian about, but it's the very thing that's keeping this little place of ours steady and strong. Nothing is ever perfect. It's how you see it in YOUR eyes...

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

WHAT IS THE DEFINATION OF A BLOG? I took the liberty to find out.

1) to author an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page
2) a personal Web site that provides updated headlines and news articles of other sites that are of interest to the user, also may include journal entries, commentaries and recommendations compiled by the user;
3) a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies

Words like this clearly indicate that a blog is something which a person write on his/ her personal views on something that interests them. I've always been someone who felt strongly about expressing oneself so it has come to that.

I really don't think anyone should correct them cos everyone's entitled to their own opinions and all. But newspapers are writing on blog ethnics and politics etc. Unless it is complete fabrication, then go print the website and bring to court to sue! Other than that, wat business has ANYONE got to stop another from writing what they want for YOUR own fancy? Dun read the blog la, if it displeases you.

The situation is simple, but people love to complicate things. At the end of the day, pple sld just judge for themselves wat, LET them be exposed to negativity etc. Let it all be seen and heard. Presenting the good side all the time doesn't mean it's a PERFECT world. All this pple who are supposedly affected are jus worried how pple may see them or their company. But HUH? the pple who actually gets influenced have NO minds of their own, so really, you don't have to be bothered then.

Then again, comes the question on, if someone writes about person A in the blog, has person A have any say or right in doing something? In my truest opinion, NO NO NO NO NO. Well they can say, but the blogger does not HAVE to do anything about it. No one sld dictate wat you can or cannot write.

But i hold my stand in not deflaming/slandering or critising/slamming anyone, having personal attacks cos it hardly ever happens and is damn silly to tell pple about this (unless i'm really pissed off! ha); writing personal scandals/affairs or betraying anyone's trust cos it's really none of my business. So WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? def not the us bloggers.

At the end of the day, it's MY choice on what i write, cos it's MY blog! Sometimes i do feel i've got to restrict myself and my words sometimes on important matters that could have dire consequences, but for unimportant matters it really should not be a problem if not it's damn sian. Then blog for what??

We can't please everyone. Nor everyone can please us. Would i compromise my beliefs for the whims of others? NO. I really don't want to and not like to do so if i can help it. But if it's for a good friend, i MAY be flexible. (i'll give in but only till a point we both feel alright. I won't totally cave in cos i'm don't feel i'm doin any wrong) I don't want to be insensitive, but Dun plead for me to change contents cos i'm already careful. We all have our different individual issues to deal with, but face it, what important matters did i write that should be hidden? NoNe in My view. So i'm 'safe' and shouldn't be 'too concerned'. Maybe, maybe not.

I know everyone would want everything to be done and said in their own way. To their advantage and to maintain certain privacy. If celebrities or common people could tell the mags not to write any scandalous news or gossips or release terrible pics of them, they would! A celebrity C and a mag columnist B may lose the friendship b/w them if anything personal got out. So celebrity C would def call columnist B to say dun write this please, just cos she dun like it even thou it's not any bad gossip or wat! Tts why Familiarity breeds contempt. If it bothers celebrity C so much, he/she would go and call EVERY OTHER media to tell the person not to write ANY news bt her at all, but he/she only tells his/her friend, columnist B. But if it's true and columnist B needs to earn a living, then how? What's right or wrong? Honestly,i think either party shouldn't get offended or bothered. No biggie. Cos like i said, it's nothing bad but a PREFERENCE. There IS a difference. Get it straight.

Likewise for common people and blogs. You may think it's fine but your friend may not like it. Then how? Money may not be earned here but Who's gona be the selfish/selfless one, to give in or not? But it's not anything bad or untrue for pete's sake. I don't write anything like that either. Plus I always type a disclaimer of 'in my opinion' for any probable sensitive stuff. It's just one's PREFERENCE over another's. In life sometimes we are struggling to keep our opinions mum, and now in MY OWN personal blog i have to as well, over minor, insignificant stuff? Where is our avenue of expression and individuality? Anyway, pple read blogs is to find out bt the blogger NOT really about anyone else! So Test your degree of true nonchalence people!! There's more shit than this in life. Thus i really think it's no big deal, live with it. So There.
